It’s a wonderful feeling walking along the left bank of the Seine and, turning a corner just as you reach Pont de la Concorde, glimpsing the top of the Eiffel Tower; a structure unique in its simultaneous ability to inspire a childlike joy and a deep reverie.
The Eiffel Tower is Paris; there’s something so timeless and nostalgic about it, as though contained in its very image are the dreams of everyone who ever gazed upon it. Being in Paris, looking out for the Eiffel Tower becomes almost a sport; you might be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of it from an unexpected vantage point, which is perhaps one of the sweetest serendipities. But, as well as those stolen moments, intentionally seeking it out and standing before it has a joy all of its own.
